Sub-Affiliate
A sub-affiliate is an affiliate recruited by another affiliate (the parent affiliate) within a multi-tier program. The parent affiliate earns an override commission on the sub-affiliate's performance.
A sub-affiliate is a partner who joins an affiliate program through the recruitment efforts of an existing affiliate, known as the parent or master affiliate. In a multi-tier or two-tier program structure, the parent affiliate earns a secondary commission, often called an override, on the conversions generated by their recruited sub-affiliates.
Sub-affiliate structures incentivize established affiliates to actively recruit and mentor new program participants, creating a self-sustaining growth engine for the program. The parent affiliate has a vested interest in the sub-affiliate's success because their own earnings increase with the sub-affiliate's performance.
The challenge with sub-affiliate models is maintaining quality and preventing the structure from devolving into a scheme focused on recruitment rather than actual sales. Programs should monitor conversion quality from sub-affiliates and cap the number of tiers to keep the model sustainable.
PartnerPulse supports sub-affiliate relationships with parent-child partner linking, automatic override commission calculations, and separate reporting for each tier level, giving both the parent affiliate and the program manager full visibility into sub-affiliate performance.
